1: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Iris Thai. Though my family is from Vietnam, I was born and raised in Hong Kong. You may probably expect someone living in such a vibrant city would have lots of interesting hobbies? Not for me. My favourite thing to do is to find a quiet corner and read books. Besides reading, I love watching movies and travelling.

2. Why/how did you start bookstagramming?

I started bookstagramming about a year ago when the city was in lockdown due to COVID-19. I've Suddenly got all the time in the world to read! So I thought why not share what I’ve read and maybe someone can discuss these books with me. And it really worked!

3. What is your favourite genre, and why?

Thriller is definitely my favourite genre. I just love that adrenaline rush in a safe and comfy environment! haha

4. What is your desert island book/ favourite book?

My favourite book is definitely To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It’s amazing how the book could deal with serious social issues in such a warm and humorous way.

5. How did you hear about Thryft?

I’m very honoured that Thryft reached out to me for this collaboration. I love the variety of the books they have and most importantly it’s good to read sustainably.

6. Tell us more about your collection topic “Dark and Stormy Night”.

A dark and stormy night can be perceived very differently by different people. Some may think it's scary and some may think it's cozy. To me, it’s kind of romantic: you can spend a night alone with only your thoughts and there are unlimited potentials. This collection provides books in various genres, from horror, fantasy, romance, comics to philosophy. Just read whatever your mind wants you to!

7. Why did you choose this collection topic?

Sometimes, I just hope people can follow their hearts. It’s not necessary to read what everyone is reading. Just spend a night with your own thoughts and let them bring you to a book that you truly want to read.

8. What are your top 3 books from the collection, and why?

Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde, The Ethics of War and Peace, and Revolutionary Road. These books just make you think.

9. What are your experiences with second-hand books, and why would you choose second-hand?

I love going to second-hand bookstores. You can never know what you can find in a second-hand bookstore. It’s kind of like, let fate decide for me. I just love that feeling.
